Sons benefit from having a father figure

On Behalf of | Nov 16, 2017 | Fathers' Rights

Fathers’ rights are important for many reasons, just one of which is the impact that fathers have on their sons. Many studies have shown that young boys who have father figures enjoy advantages that others do not have.

For instance, some studies have shown that the odds of a young man developing substance abuse and addiction problems go down when that person has a father figure in his life. This isn’t to say that the risk is entirely gone, but it’s less common than with those who don’t have a father figure.

Aggressive behavior has also been shown to drop in some studies. This can reduce the odds that a young man will be caught up in criminal activity. A son with a father in his life may stay out of trouble and subsequently enjoy many advantages, such as the lack of a criminal record, down the line.

When examining the grades that students get in school, studies have also found that children with father figures in their lives tend to score higher than those without. This is especially true when fathers are involved with their kids’ studies. This isn’t to say that kids without fathers cannot succeed, but it just looks at the overall trends and finds a strong correlation.

Parents can’t always stay married for a multitude of reasons. This changes the home life for a child, but it does not have to mean that the child doesn’t have a father figure. It’s important for parents in Nebraska to know exactly what legal rights they have and what type of parenting plan and custody agreement will be most helpful for the children.
